What to Bring on a Boat Tour: A Skipper's Checklist

Good news first: a private boat day needs far less packing than people think, because most of it is already on board. Here's the short, honest checklist we send our guests the evening before their tour.

Already on board — don't pack these

What to wear

Your swimsuit under light clothes — that's the uniform of this coast. Add a light cover-up or shirt for the sun, and something slightly smarter if you plan a long lunch in Capri or Positano. In spring and autumn bring a light jacket: the ride home can be breezy.

Shoes — the barefoot rule

On deck we go barefoot, like every boat on this coast — it protects the teak and your toes. Bring comfortable sandals or trainers in your bag for going ashore; Capri's lanes and the Positano steps reward comfortable soles. Leave the heels at the hotel.

Sun protection — the one thing people underestimate

The sun at sea is doubled by the reflection off the water. Bring high-SPF cream, sunglasses and a hat — and reapply after every swim. Your skipper always has shade ready, but the light off the water reaches everywhere.

A little cash

Cards work almost everywhere ashore, but a little cash makes three things easy: the Blue Grotto rowboats (about €18 per person, paid on site), sunbeds at a beach club, and gelato on the Marina. Everything on board is already included.

Phones, cameras and valuables

The boat has dry storage for bags and USB charging. A waterproof phone pouch is a nice extra for swim-stop photos — and honestly, the best souvenir shots of the day are taken from water level. Leave passports and serious valuables in the hotel safe.

Coming with children?

Just bring their hats, high-SPF cream and any snacks they love — child-size life jackets are on board, the itinerary bends around nap times, and shaded seats keep little ones comfortable. Our gozzo boats are stable and family-friendly by design.

Prone to seasickness?

The honest answer: on a calm day along this coast, most people feel nothing at all. If you know you're sensitive, take a seasickness tablet an hour before departure, sit facing forward in the fresh air, and tell your skipper — he'll favour the sheltered side of the coast.
